AUGUST 13 - The Aliens Have Landed ( and They Buy Craft Supplies) and Beam Me Somewhere, Scotty

Another hot day at work, just not so hot as yesterday, so I actually got a bit of work done, between some of the neediest customers ever. Not just needy. I will probably end up getting fired one day for speaking my mind.
  1. Down at the back table, pricing a whack of stock. Someone reaches over and puts a bottle of paint in my hand. I ask, 'Are you ready (to pay for it?)'  and she answers, 'No, we're still looking around.' So I put it on the table - and she says, 'But I'll pay for it now.' So I take it up to the cash register and wait for almost 5 minutes before she dawdles up.
  2. A young gal buys over $19 worth of stuff and pays with a $5 bill and quarters and nickels and dimes. She tells me she's getting rid of her change. I tell her I usually take my change to the bank. By the time she had it all counted out I had answered a phone call, and had a line-up at cash.
  3. A woman goes all ga-ga over a big bag of beads in the window, and has to have them, no - not the ones in the jewelry section, the ones in the window. 'Put them on the counter,' she asks, 'I've got to buy them!' So I go to the check-out, she follows, and I ring up the sale. 'Oh, I'm not ready yet.' Fine. Cancel sale. Meanwhile she goes to get some ribbon, asks for 5 yards, doesn't know what metres are, gets me all confused, and ends up asking for 6 metres, as that is what she usually gets. I ring it up and then she tells me she doesn't want the beads any more. If there was a stone wall for me to thump my head against today, I would use it.
  4. Someone's order came to $5.43. I never had any pennies in the till, and she said she never had two to give me. So I gave her back a nickel instead of 2 cents, and told her when the pennies are no longer in circulation she wouldn't have got back the nickel, her change would have been rounded down. She said, 'Well, I guess that (giving me back the nickel) isn't going to put the store under.' Instead of slapping her, I went to the bank for some pennies.
Now all this went down before noon, and like the Energizer Bunny, just kept on going - what a frustrating day.

But now I'm home, it's almost 9 o'clock and I'm ready to clock out for the night. One more day of slavery, and then Breehy and I are going to find something fun to do, even if it kills us.

17 PLACES I WOULD HAVE RATHER BEEN TODAY - in no particular order - except for the first one, which would definitely be the first one.
